In ihrer Thematik greift sie auf Mythologie und Fabeln zurück, während sie in die unheimlichen Bereiche des menschlichen Verhaltens eintaucht, was zu beunruhigenden Szenarien und monströsen Kreaturen führt. Die Werke, die von winzigen Figuren bis zu großformatigen Installationen reichen, wirken manchmal unschuldig und manchmal ausgesprochen bedrohlich – aber immer ungeheuer attraktiv.
In letzter Zeit hat Hindsgavl auch Werke aus Steingut aufgenommen. Diese Werke wirken tendenziell ausdrucksvoller und ermöglichen Hindsgavl einen spielerischeren Ansatz bei der Glasur.
Louise Hindsgavl hat in Dänemark und im Ausland vielfach ausgestellt, und ihre Werke wurden in führende Museumssammlungen aufgenommen und von wichtigen Kunstinstitutionen erworben, darunter der New Carlsberg Foundation, der Danish Arts Foundation, dem Victoria & Albert Museum in London und dem Nationalmuseum von Schweden in Stockholm.
Zu ihren zahlreichen Auszeichnungen zählt die Prinz-Eugen-Medaille für „Künstlerische Exzellenz“, die ihr 2015 vom schwedischen Königshof verliehen wurde.
